Meals on Wheels Cook to Retire Tuesday

Sam Wright has been with Syracuse non-profit for nearly 30 years

Syracuse, NY – September 26, 2014Meals on Wheels of Syracuse will say goodbye to Sam Wright on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, after nearly 30 years with the non-profit organization.  Wright, who is currently the Head Cook for the 4th oldest Meals on Wheels program in the country, has been an employee of Meals on Wheels of Syracuse since January of 1986.

 

Mason Kaufman, the Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Syracuse said, “It’s a rough estimate, but we believe that Sammie has cooked more than 2.5 million hot meals for us over the years.  He’s been a fixture in our kitchen for nearly three decades.”  Kaufman calculated that Wright has likely cooked more than 630,000 pounds of meat, fish, or chicken entrees, 472,000 pounds of vegetables, and 472,500 pounds of potatoes, rice, or pasta.
